COVID-19 Updates from Governor DeWine

Ohio State Press Conference Summary: 4/3 - 4/6

Monday, 4/6: Governor DeWine opened by reviewing the new provisions of the extended stay at home order, specifically the requirement that stores now limit the number of people in the store at any given time. The Governor thanked the over 1400 businesses that have offered their services to help manufacture personal protective equipment for the healthcare industry. As people are coming back to the state from other areas of the country, including those that have traveled for business, they are being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days before they interact with other residents. This is in effect until at least the next deadline of 5/1.

Lt. Governor Husted reviewed the Dispute Resolution Commission’s purpose of helping to clarify essential business rulings for businesses that are operating in multiple areas of the state and are experiencing discrepancies in interpretation between different local health boards. He also stated that if there are any businesses that do not have access to a bank that can provide them an application for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP), the state has partnered with Goldman Sachs to secure $20MM in funds to help cover their needs.

Saturday, 4/4: Governor DeWine went over the hospital bed build out plans for the state, highlighting hospitals that are finding ways to increase rooms by changing their current space usages. The Governor discussed an act that was signed expanding the ability to access services from counselors through telemedicine services to promote mental health as well as physical health. Employers are being encouraged to allow workers to wear homemade masks to boost efforts to slow the spread. Information on the proper creation and use of homemade masks can be found here.

Lt. Governor Husted discussed the addition of tab on the www.coronavirus.ohio.gov/businesshelp site to show where there are wi-fi hot spots located throughout the state for those that do not have access to reliable internet service. He issued a reminder that in order to vote you need to request a ballot that will be mailed to you by your local board of elections. Also issued a reminder to fill out your census form. For displaced employees that are looking for work, there are currently 23,000 jobs posted on www.coronavirus.ohio.gov/jobsearch.

Friday, 4/3: Governor DeWine opened with remarks from Gen. John Harris of the Ohio National Guard to discuss the progress of the hospital build out to increase capacity. He also gave a reminder for businesses to keep up with their “digital hygiene” to make sure that all of our online networks stay secure at this time.

Lt. Governor Husted started with an update for small businesses and the Payroll Protection Program (PPP). Banks that are administering the loans received guidance from the government on Friday and will now begin processing applications. He reiterated the importance of contacting your bank to get your application in process.
