COVID-19 Update from Governor Beshear

Kentucky State Press Conference Summary: 4/3 – 4/6

• For small businesses paying into unemployment, Governor Beshear stated that Sen. McConnell shared they were clearing up some federal issues related to the SBA loans and thinks there will be additional relief. Governor Beshear believes they’ll see some of the funding on April 24th

• The additional $600 for unemployment, although they do not have a definitive date as to when it will be turned on, will be retroactive to Mar. 29

• With the continued increase of unemployment claims, they continue to hire additional people to help answer calls and process the claims.

• They are calling on all companies who may be able to produce PPE. Visit Give PPE or call 833-448-3773.

    • N95 face masks/respirators
    • Face shields
    • Latex free gloves
    • Oxygen concentrators
    • Procedural & surgical masks
    • Disposable gowns, foot coves, surgical caps

• CDC guidance indicates wearing cloth masks may help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The general public doesn’t need the N95 or surgical masks. They state the spread of the virus is thru saliva, nasal secretions, coughs, sneezes, singing and talking. Wearing masks does not replace the social distancing requirement.

• For those who do not have health care coverage, go to kycovid19.ky.gov, scroll down and click Services. There is a very fast way to get healthcare coverage through June, and you are encouraged to take advantage.

• To see a breakdown of the virus as it impacts countries and US state/territories, visit 91-DIVOC: Flip the Script on COVID-19.

• Drive thru testing is on hold at the moment, but Kentucky has entered into an agreement with Gravity Diagnostics and will provide 2,000 tests per day which will be used throughout the state. The number of tests per day will depend on the number of swabs available. The tests will be for Tier 1 patients (symptomatic; healthcare workers; high-risk; first responders) and will begin April 7. Results can be returned within 24 hours.
