Print Week 2022: Maxwell and Printer of the Year Award Recipients

Our Print Week traditions not only include celebrating our Print Excellence Award winners, but we honor individuals and companies who have greatly impacted the industry. This week, we congratulate our Southern Region special awards recipients.

Since 1963, our Southern Region has recognized an individual in the print community, as well as a prominent company, for their outstanding contributions.

The Maxwell Award is given to a company who demonstrates forward thinking, is a market leader, and is recognizable for its contributions to both the industry and local community.

Congratulations to our 2022 Maxwell Award Winner, Roberds Converting!

Over 110 years ago the road to Cincinnati began for Roberds Converting in Marion, Indiana. 1906 to be exact. In 1977 the current group bought the company and its three employees, and so starts the growth of the company from Marion, Indiana, to Hamilton, Ohio, to Blue Ash and now in NE Cincinnati. Today, the business operates 24 hours a day, 5-6 days per week, 6 machines, and nearing 50 employees.

All production is to size and to a specific order. Stock sheets are not a Roberds specialty, sheets are made to size when needed, and to the exact sheet count required. Significant investments have been made and are being made to increase size capabilities, speeds, and the diversity of product offerings. Their specialty is packaging, the grades we stock in rolls are geared towards packaging, POP, Digital Flatbed, top-sheet, and Folding Carton.

A tribute needs to be paid to Earl Achberger who had the vision to buy the company and eventually bring the business to Cincinnati. At 96 years old today, he brings great reward to the team.

The recipient of Printer of the Year is actively engaged in any field of the graphic arts industry, have a minimum of 15 years’ experience and have distinguished himself/herself by their contributions in the industry. They should also be involved in their community and/or civic affairs. This year we are pleased to present the Printer of the Year to John Bartik of Western & Southern Financial Group.

John’s career began as a co-op student working at Printing Service Company during his Junior and Senior year of high school. He stayed with the company for 15 years working his way up to General Manager.

In 2010 Western & Southern Financial Group pursued John as a candidate to run their growing In-plant operation. John accepted this new position and has remined here ever since. Under his tenure, the facility has upgraded equipment twice and moved to a refurbished 36,000 sf facility in Newport, KY.

For 40 years, Graphic Media Alliance has provided John aid with numerous challenges in running a smooth operation, as well as supplying educational courses for expanding his skill sets. John has gratefully served on the advisory board of the Southern Region and on the State Board for the past 15 years.
