1 in 4 Workers Say They Didn't Take A Single Vacation Day In The Last Year
Source: HR Dive, October 21, 2025
While 82% of U.S. workers have paid time off, nearly a quarter didn’t take any vacation days in the past year, according to the FlexJobs Work and PTO Pressure Report published last week.
In a survey of more than 3,000 people, 4 in 10 workers said they took one to 10 days off, while 25% of workers said their manager would discourage them from taking a full week off.
Most US workers take 15 or fewer days off per year
Workers cited heavy workloads, manager expectations and company culture as reasons for not taking more time away, the survey found.
“Most employees have some form of paid time off, but there’s a big difference between a company that offers this benefit and one that actually encourages workers to use it. Without a company culture that supports rest, many workers feel they can’t really step away without risking their professional reputation,” Toni Frana, a career expert at FlexJobs, said in a statement.
