OSHA Delays Compliance Deadlines for Hazardous Chemical Rules
Source: Bloomberg Law, January 14, 2026 Osha Pic
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration delayed by four months the compliance deadlines for its latest rules on communicating chemical hazards.
OSHA Thursday will publish a notice extending the date when companies must meet various rules, to May and November. The rules outline requirements for informing workers about chemical hazards through labels and training.
The updated rules have received pushback from chemical manufacturers who said that the new standard contained overly complex requirements for flagging downstream dangers to employers that use the substances.
Companies that use chemicals as part of their everyday workplace tasks face liability for not providing adequate training or maintaining appropriate records.
Under the final rule, chemical manufacturers and importers must list on warning labels the chemical reactions and dangers that occur when the chemical is mixed with other compounds.
