Limited Edition Prints to Commemorate Print’s Role in the United States’ Founding

Source: Printing Industry of the Carolinas, June 1, 2026

PICA is proud to re-release a collection of historic art prints that celebrate both the birth of our nation and the vital role print played in shaping it. These signed, numbered prints honoring American print history, were originally commissioned by The PICA Foundation for the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution by artists Mort Künstler and Ward Nichols. Mort Künstler died in February 2025, so his paintings will increase in value.

Prints are available unframed for $200 each or framed in a pewter frame for $300, with shipping costs based on zip code. Proceeds from each purchase directly support print and graphic communications education across North and South Carolina. By investing in these timeless pieces of American history—told through the eyes of printers, artists, and craftsmen—you’re also helping to shape the future of print in the Carolinas. In addition, PICA and The PICA Foundation are donating limited-edition prints of The First Amendment or We the People to participating schools across North and South Carolina. To date, 34 middle and high schools in the Carolinas have selected their preferred framed print.

To further support educators, PICA has developed a companion resource paper exploring how print shaped communication, political thought, and civic engagement during the nation’s founding. This resource is available to teachers who receive the prints; it’s also available at https://bit.ly/PICA250.

PICA leadership emphasizes that the 250th anniversary is not only an opportunity to reflect on history, but also to highlight print’s ongoing impact on communities, communication, and career pathways.
